This site was developed to help inform homeowners of the New Mexico rules regarding handymen and what they are allowed to do and what they are NOT allowed to do.

A UNLICENSED handyman may work on:

FENCING, FIXTURES/CABINETS/MILLWORK, FLOORING, PAINTING, SANDBLASTING, TILE, WELDING, AND NON-REPAIR TYPE SERVICES SUCH AS CLEANING, HAULING & YARDWORK ARE EXEMPT FROM LICENSING AND HANDYMAN REQUIREMENTS

A LICENSED handyman may also work on:

REPAIR HOLES IN WALLS, REPAIR SIDING (NOT INCLUDING STUCCO), REPAIR (NOT REPLACE) BROKEN WINDOWS AND DOORS, REPAIR CONCRETE OR WOODEN STEPS, AND PERFORM MINOR REPAIRS TO BUILDINGS.

A person who holds a New Mexico handyman certificate may not advertise contractor services, build a driveway, perform roof repair/construction, hire employees/subcontractors, or build porches, sheds, decks, gazebos, and garden structures. Certified handyman professionals in New Mexico may not perform over $7,200 of work per year.
